Effects of GAMISIRYUNG TANG on D-Galactosamine Induced Liver Injury in Rat

Abstract
Protective effects of GAMISIRYNG TANG on D-galactosamine-induced liver damage were studied in rat and primary rat hepatocytes culture system. Oral feeding of GAMISIRYUNG TANG to rat four consecutive times at 0, 3, 6 and 12 hr after galactosamine(375§·/§¸, I.P.)treatment effectively protected against serum glutamic pyruvate transaminase and lactic dehydrogenase increase induced by galactosamine. GAMISIRYUNG TANG also protected galactosamine-induced depression of tyrosine aminotransferase activity in liver and depression of BSP biliary excretion. Pathological examination of liver tissues indicated that no necrosis of accumulation of inflamatory cells occured if GAMISIRYUNG TANG was adm inistered after galactosamine treatment. Pretreatment of GAMISIRYUNG TANG for 5 days also effectively protected against galactosamine-induced SGPT increase. When primary hepatocytes cultures were prepared from rats pretreated with GAMISIRYUNG TANG, a significant increase of RNA and protein synthesis in the culture were observed. The results tentatively indicate that GAMISIRYUNG TANG protects against galactosamine-induced live damage by increasing RNA and protein synthesis in the liver cell.
